Florals in Spring... Groundbreaking

My Favorite Floral Spots in Prague

“Florals in Spring..Groundbreaking” is an iconic quote from the Devil wears Prada movie staring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathway. Streep’s character, a fashion visionary and powerhouse, says this in response to an employees suggestion that they promote floral fashion during the spring. Florals are such an common place in spring… that Streep’s character sarcastically responds the now iconic phrase. But… Florals in spring are groundbreaking!

April and May are some of my favorite months in the year. Besides being the birth months of some of my favorite people, they have become synonymous with spring and new beginnings to me. Seeing flowers sprout up, winding the clock backward, trading out winter clothes for bright and floral colors really makes things feel new and full of opportunity again.

The past few weeks for me have been a mix of both eustress and anticipation (and maybe a little of the distress :P) . Yesterday, I officially selected a graduate program and chose where to spend the next few years of my life. I took the month of April to really make the decision. I set up appointments with the schools I was interested in, surrounded myself with trusted friends who I could bounce my emotions off, employed my siblings to tour places I couldn’t go see (safely of course), and mostly spent A LOT of time mediating. It wasn’t all smooth sailing though… reflection also led to insight about certain aspects of my life and of course, not all pills are as easy to swallow.

In the upcoming months, I will navigate a lot of newness and new beginnings. This anticipation has got me thinking about how I feel. I am part excited, proud, happy, and a little scared.

Nevertheless, I am super grateful for the friends and colleagues I have made in Prague. For it is the walks with these beautiful souls through parks, and streets that has reminded me of the sort of glorious aspect of new beginnings. For instance, I spent a couple of hours at the park Vojanovy sady recently. Seeing the budding florals and running away from the birds with a friend made me feel at peace.

I’m pretty confident in the school I have chosen. And in deriving inspiration from nature, I’m ready for this new phase in my life. Related to this theme, below is a list of parks I think everyone should see when they come to Prague. In case you have a major decision to make or need a reminder of the beauty and strength found in moving on to new things :)

Ahoj and xoxo,

Bella

My Favorite 5 Places for Floral Inspiration in Prague

1. Riegrovy Sady -For the sunset and picnics. Its a popular spot for both tourists and locals alike. It tends to get crowded around sunset time. Besides the blooming trees, it doesn’t really have as many flower arrangements as the other places. But the views and surrounding neighborhoods and coffee shops are fun to explore.

  • Address: Vinohrady, 120 00 Prague 2

2. Vojanovy sady- The peacocks!!! And I say this as someone who is insanely terrified of birds. Besides being in the presence of these "majestic” creatures, there were so many flowers and blooming trees that created a sweet aroma. I sat with a friend for about 30 minutes or so just chatting on a Wednesday afternoon. Note… it is a popular site for photoshoots when everything is blooming so just be aware.

  • Address: U Lužického semináře, 118 00 Malá Strana

3. Letna- I primarily like Letna for the views, especially that of the river.

  • Address: Letná, 170 00 Prague 7

4. Prague Botanical Gardens: A greenhouse, Japanese Garden section, devoted bee keeping fortress, a forest?, and an ode to America are all a few reasons why I like this place. There is a tiny cost associated with entry… 100 kc. But it is a 1000% worth it.

5. Petrin: For the views!!! It’s an uphill climb and for the weak lunged people out there like me … do not go here on a first date cause your date will keep asking you if you are okay… or worse… ask about your exercise regime :P. In all seriousness, the climb is worth it. There’s a beautiful pond area and everything. Kind of romantic … if you’re fit (heheheheh)

  • Address:Strahov, 169 00 Prague 6

Bonus 5th Point. Trojský Zámek: This is a nice castle and garden area in the same area as the zoo and the botanical gardens. It’s free to enter and walk around the courtyard. There is a lawn area in the shape of a maze, beautiful blooming trees and statues.

  • Address: U Trojského zámku 4/1, 171 00 Praha 7
