Portugal Day 1 -Pateis de Belem and Mex Factory

Portugal Day 1 :

The first two days of our time in Portugal were spent in Lisbon.

On Day 1, we explored the Belem area with the following itinerary:

1.     Jeronimos Monastery

2.     Padro do Descobrimentos

3.     Belem Tower

4.     LX Factory

In between exploring these areas, we fueled our energy tanks with delicious Portuguese cuisine and pastries, below are succinct reviews on everything we tried:

1.     Name: Pateis De Belem

a.     Known For: Delicious Egg Tarts

b.     MO: You can choose to either dine in or do a quick pick up. We chose pick up and were ordering in about 7 minutes. Not only do they offer the famous Portuguese pastries-egg tarte, they also offer a wide range of breakfast pastry items.

c.     Cost: Relatively normal priced for Portugal standards

d.     Belita Tracy rating out of 5: 4/5. The food tasted absolutely delicious. I got the Pain Au Chocolat and the filling was amazing.

a.     Fun Fact: I think one of my favorite things about the Portuguese so far is their innovative sprit. History says  these were invented by Portuguese monks who needed to do something with egg yolks they kept collecting since they used the egg whites for starching their clothes. This tarte eventually made its way to China, and then Hong Kong. Today it is one of the most popular selling items in the country.

2.     Name: Mex Factory at LX Factory:

a.     Known For: LX factory is an art district where you can get some lovely affordable food while enjoying the arts, thrifting or maybe getting a piercing. Mex Factory is one of the many restaurants at LX factory that serves Mexican food. Not only is their food delicious but also their bathroom.

b.     MO:  Sit in or outside to order food

c.     Cost: Relatively normal priced for Portugal standards

d.     Belita Tracy rating: 4/5
